Kritich Pak-ichan, Democrat MP for Trang, has called on the Interior Minister and the Police Chief to suppress transnational drug gangs who have thrown bombs and launched over 20 military weapon attacks, causing chaos in Trang. He fears the province could become the "Texas of Thailand," severely damaging tourism and the economy.
On 5 Nov 2026 GMT+7, during a parliamentary session, Kritich Pak-ichan, MP for Trang's 3rd district from the Democrat Party, addressed the Speaker of the House to convey the people's distress to the Interior Minister and Police Chief Somyot Nualma. This follows escalating unrest and violent crime in Trang province.
Kritich said he believes in honest politics and feels indebted to the people, so he cannot ignore their distress and fear. Over the past 2–3 months, Trang—a tourist city known for its beautiful nature, delicious food, and friendly people—has faced shocking violence, including military weapon attacks on homes and over 20 bombings. Police have acknowledged that transnational drug crime networks are behind these incidents.
The repeated brazen attacks have led media and the public to nickname the area the "Texas of Thailand." Innocent residents live in fear of stray bullets, worsening the local economy and severely damaging Trang's tourism image. The insecurity has undermined tourist confidence in visiting the province.
Kritich demanded that the government and the national police treat this as an urgent matter. He suggested that Police Chief Somyot Nualma stay in Trang for just two nights to personally supervise and command operations, believing this would end the violent incidents. He also cited former Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai's words: "I cannot make everyone equally wealthy, but I will ensure everyone is under the same law," urging strict and equal law enforcement to restore peace and safety for Trang residents promptly.
