Sanphet joins hands with Siriraj to discuss developing a Medical Park on 21 rai of railway land near Thonburi Station, preparing to establish a joint working group to design the space and elevate health services to international standards.
On 5 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sanphet Boonyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport, held a meeting with the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and SRT Asset Company Limited to set the framework and direction for developing the Thonburi Station area. This State Railway of Thailand (SRT) land, about 21 rai, is being studied for potential development into a comprehensive Medical Park to expand medical service capacity, meet rising health demands, and advance toward becoming an international medical and health center.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Weerayut Ngamjit, Assistant Secretary to the Minister of Transport, alongside Professor Dr. Keerati Charoencholwanich, Dean of Siriraj Faculty of Medicine; Associate Professor Dr. Ratthaphon Tuangthong, Deputy Dean for Student Affairs; Associate Professor Dr. Teera Kloldareungkrai, Director of Siriraj Hospital; and Dr. Rawis Khanchalee, Deputy Managing Director of SRT Asset Company Limited.
Regarding the development concept, the Siriraj Faculty of Medicine proposed a Medical Park direction comprising a Rehabilitation Center, Wellness Center, and Residential Area. This aims to create a comprehensive health service system covering medical treatment, health rehabilitation, and long-term wellness promotion, focusing on service models that accommodate both Thai citizens and international patients.
Currently, Siriraj Hospital faces space and capacity limitations due to high patient volumes and operating at full service potential. The Siriraj Faculty of Medicine's main service network, including Siriraj Hospital, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital, and Kanjanapisek Medical Center, employs about 23,000 staff. Therefore, planning to expand service capacity and develop supporting areas for future medical missions is essential. Developing the Medical Park is a key approach to advancing Siriraj's medical expertise toward providing comprehensive health services meeting international standards.
Additionally, the meeting exchanged views on maximizing the efficient use of State Railway land, considering Siriraj's space requirements, project development forms, and management approaches suitable for medical missions. This also ensures compliance with related rules and regulations, enabling concrete progress in area development.
Next steps include establishing a joint working group among related agencies to study and design land use at Thonburi Station, covering development forms, allocation for medical and health activities, and management and operational guidelines. The goal is to propose suitable development plans that can be practically implemented, leveraging state land assets to benefit health service systems, enhance medical access for the public, and support Thailand's elevation as an international medical and health hub.
