Anutin Addresses Blue Takeover Allegations, Ready for No-Confidence Debate: Performance and Facts Will Protect the Government

Anutin clears up allegations of a "blue takeover," insisting he cannot control the Senate or direct the legislative branch. He points out the clear separation of the three powers and welcomes the no-confidence debate, asserting that majority votes won't help; only performance and facts will save the government.

7 Nov 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Anutin Chanvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said in the program "Talk with Prime Minister Anutin" addressing political criticism about a 'blue takeover,' calling it a rhetoric used to attack the government. He affirmed that the executive branch cannot control the Senate or command the legislative branch.

Mr. Anutin further explained that the Senate is part of the legislative branch, while the government is the executive branch. Both have roles and powers separated by the constitution. The government has no authority to order the Senate to support laws, individuals, or decisions according to the executive's wishes. He questioned that if the government truly controlled the Senate, why do many senators still criticize the government, including the Senate president. He emphasized that knowing many politicians does not mean one can command or determine their positions.

"My government views the Senate as a sovereign power within the legislative branch. There is no involvement in directing or telling the Senate to pass this or that law or support certain people. I have never seen myself able to do that even once."

The prime minister also revealed that the relationship between the government and members of the House of Representatives is normal because the government relies on the parliamentary majority to push policies promised during campaigns. He said he talks with MPs from both government and opposition and is ready to accept proposals that benefit the people regardless of who proposes them.

He gave the example of an MP from the People’s Party who suggested changing the color of motorcycle taxi vests in Chonburi province back to orange, as it reflects light better and is safer than blue. Upon receiving this information, he immediately ordered relevant agencies to make the change. He stressed that safety issues should not be politicized by color. He also mentioned a proposal from the People’s Party MP to promote snooker and billiards as recognized sports by easing restrictions related to gambling laws, which the government is willing to consider supporting if the legal content is comprehensive and benefits Thai athlete development.

Furthermore, the prime minister addressed the no-confidence debate, saying the government is ready for the scrutiny process and is not delaying. Previously, all ministers were scheduled to keep their agendas clear from 26-30 October 2026 to attend the debate. However, setting the exact date is still under discussion between government and opposition regarding suitable timing. He emphasized that the debate should focus on substance, evidence, and facts rather than time-wasting. If there is proof that the government or ministers have caused harm to the country, lengthy hours are unnecessary; verifiable facts must be presented to the public.

The prime minister continued that all ministers must be ready to explain, not just those named in the motion, because if their responsibilities are mentioned, they must answer to parliament. The explanation aims not only to inform MPs but also to respond to the entire nation.

"I have never believed that majority votes can save a government. I have told all ministers that only your facts and achievements can save yourselves and the government."

He reiterated that the debate should be based on evidence, reasons, and beneficial content, not used as a forum to vent anger or political conflicts. The prime minister also said that checks and balances are unavoidable and should not be avoided as they follow constitutional processes. The government’s role is to clarify, perform well, and let the people decide who has stronger arguments in the political arena.
