The government is advancing investments for the country's future after S&P maintained Thailand's credit rating, highlighting new industries and infrastructure to enhance competitiveness alongside fiscal discipline.
On 7 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Pertwittayatan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government prioritizes investment to create opportunities and build a long-term economic foundation. The S&P assessment reflects the importance of driving the economy through investment and enhancing competitiveness while maintaining fiscal stability.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mr. Akniti Nitithanprapas announced through the Public Debt Management Office that the government will continue to implement economic policies effectively.
This includes promoting investment in new industries, boosting competitiveness, and maintaining fiscal discipline to build confidence and lay a foundation for stable and sustainable growth.
Ms. Lalida added that the S&P report mentioned measures supporting investment in Thailand's advanced technology industries, such as tax incentives for Data Center projects, support for Thai operators to connect with the global AI supply chain, promotion of research and development, and technology training. S&P assessed that ongoing investment in these areas could help restore Thailand's economic competitiveness and enhance growth potential going forward.
“Investment in future industries is not only about attracting foreign capital but also creating opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to participate in new supply chains, develop technology skills and knowledge, and increase competitiveness so that Thailand’s economy can grow and adapt to global changes,” said the Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office.
Ms. Lalida noted that another key mechanism to boost economic potential is infrastructure investment. The S&P report highlighted investments aligned with national reform plans and strategies, including the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and transportation infrastructure. These investments involve state enterprises and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), opening opportunities for the private sector to participate in national infrastructure development. Project implementation must consider cost-effectiveness, fiscal burden, and risks that the government must manage appropriately.
“Investment for the future and fiscal discipline must go hand in hand. The country needs to develop infrastructure and new industries to increase economic potential while carefully considering project value and managing financial burdens. Involving the private sector is therefore another mechanism to drive national investment,” said the Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office.
The Deputy Spokesperson emphasized that this assessment maintains Thailand’s credit rating and stable outlook, not an upgrade. The government will continue to build confidence through supporting investment, technology development, and enhancing competitiveness alongside fiscal discipline to prepare Thailand for economic changes and achieve sustainable long-term growth.
