Democrat Party Responds to Sastra: Don’t Use MP Numbers to Silence Critics, Urges Government to Work for the People

The Democrat Party's deputy spokesperson responded to Sastra's unconstructive remarks, warning against citing MP numbers to silence questioning voices. She emphasized that people in the South do not care about seats and demanded government MPs show whether Southern residents have seen tangible results.

7 Nov 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Duangrit Buakaew, Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party (Democrats) commented on the case where Mr. Sastra Sripan responded to Mr. Chaiyachana Detdecho, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, stating that the matter was not a constructive political stance, while questioning the development direction of the South, which is a fundamental duty of opposition politicians to scrutinize. She also urged the government to accelerate work for the people.

Ms. Duangrit added that the Bhumjaithai Party having 30–31 MPs from the South does not mean the government has a special license to act without oversight. Nor does the number of Democrat MPs diminish the value of the voices of those who voted for them.

"I do not deny the election results. Since Bhumjaithai won over 30 Southern MPs, the question is whether Southern residents have seen MPs they elected accomplish anything tangible to improve their well-being, especially since these MPs are part of the government."

She continued that Southern people do not care about MP numbers but want income to support their families and to see the future of their homes. They want concrete results, not just MP counts, because MPs are elected to represent and work for them.

She further questioned whether government MPs have delivered tangible improvements in quality of life in areas such as transportation—with double-track railways, road development, and transport linking provinces; economy—for farmers, fishermen, entrepreneurs, and tourism operators to earn more; infrastructure—including water supply, electricity, drainage, and disaster management with fair coverage; and opportunity distribution—ensuring Southerners access budgets, investments, and state services equitably. She also asked if compensation payments have been fully made.

Ms. Duangrit concluded by saying, "I want to emphasize that having 31 MPs does not mean the government is right on every issue, and having fewer MPs does not mean we must stop scrutinizing the government. More importantly, elected MPs must convert votes into improved quality of life for the people. Southern development is not the concern of any one political party but the future of all Southern people."
