“Chaturon” Urges “Warawut” to Enable Public Oversight of Toxic Waste Industrial Factories Progress

Chaturon commends Warawut's eagerness in accelerating inspections of factories nationwide but criticizes that the entire system must be fixed to allow the public to equally monitor the progress of all operators.

On 8 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Chaturon Chaisang, party-list MP of the Pheu Thai Party, praised Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Industry, for his enthusiasm in addressing industrial pollution by assigning the special task force “Top Gun” to collaborate with relevant agencies to inspect factories causing public distress, alongside initiating inspections of 3,049 targeted industrial waste sorting and recycling factories nationwide.

However, the mass inspections must lead to a continuous supervisory system covering licensed factories, establishments operating illegally, and factories ordered to cease operations but still with residual waste. It should include monitoring the entire route of industrial waste from origin to disposal and tracking whether corrective or shutdown orders effectively prevent pollution and alleviate public distress.

Chaturon stated that transparency is essential to solving the problem. It is necessary to disclose which areas were inspected, the issues found, the orders issued, who is responsible, and deadlines for corrections, including follow-up reports. This enables the public to verify progress and ensures uniform standards for all operators.

At the same time, local communities must be allowed to participate by providing information, giving opinions, and monitoring results. Coordination among agencies should be clear so that the enthusiasm for inspections translates into policies and systems that sustainably prevent recurrent industrial pollution problems.
