On 7 December 2025, the Facebook pageof the Meteorological Departmentposted that from 7 to 10 January 2026, cold weather will persist with temperatures dropping 3-5°C in the North and Northeast, 2-4°C in the Central, Eastern, Bangkok, and surrounding areas, while the South will have isolated thunderstorms.
Regarding the 7-day weather forecast (7 – 13 January 2026)
From 7 to 10 January 2026, upper Thailand will experience colder weather with strong winds. Temperatures will drop 3-5°C in the North and Northeast, and 2-4°C in the Central and Eastern regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, due to a strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea.
In the lower South, there will be isolated thunderstorms caused by a relatively strong northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea. Wind waves in the Gulf of Thailand will be quite strong, with waves 2-3 meters high, exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The Andaman Sea will have waves 1-2 meters high, and in offshore and thunderstorm areas, waves will be over 2 meters high.
From 11 to 13 January 2026, upper Thailand will remain cool to cold but temperatures will begin to rise slightly with morning fog and some dense fog in certain areas, as the high-pressure system or cold air mass covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea weakens.
In the South, rainfall will decrease, mostly in the lower regions, as the northeast monsoon weakening over the lower Gulf of Thailand and southern South. Wind waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will also weaken, with waves about 2 meters high in the Gulf, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas, and about 1 meter high in the Andaman Sea, with offshore waves 1-2 meters high and exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm zones.
Precautions: Residents in upper Thailand and the upper South should take care of their health due to the cold weather and be cautious of fire hazards because of dry conditions and strong winds. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas throughout the period. Coastal residents on the eastern side of the South should watch out for dangerous waves washing ashore. Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand should refrain from going out to sea from 7 to 10 January 2026. From 11 to 13 January 2026, residents in upper Thailand should be careful when traveling in foggy areas.
