Prepare to Witness Historic Moment: Launch of THEOS-2A Satellite into Space on 12 Jan 2026

GISTDA invites Thai people to witness the historic launch of Thailand's third Earth observation satellite. "THEOS-2A" is set to soar into space on 12 January 2026.

On 8 January 2025, the Facebook pageGISTDA, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization),posted a message counting down to another historic moment for Thai space exploration, inviting people to watch the live broadcast of "THEOS-2A" launching into orbit on 12 January.

Thailand is about to mark another major milestone in space history as the high-resolution Earth observation satellite THEOS-2A prepares to launch into space on Monday, 12 January 2026. It is Thailand's third Earth observation satellite, following THEOS-1 and THEOS-2, developed and managed by GISTDA.

GISTDA invites the Thai public to witness this important national moment with a live broadcast of THEOS-2A's launch into space on Monday, 12 January 2026, at 11:47 a.m. via the GISTDA Facebook page and the YouTube channel GISTDAspace. Satellite engineers and experts will provide explanations, describe the process, and answer questions to help the public closely understand this significant space mission.

THEOS-2A is more than just another satellite for the country; it is the "eye in space" that will integrate data from the land with human living conditions meaningfully, providing a comprehensive view of events on Earth. Satellite data will support policy decisions, development, disaster mitigation and response, natural resource management, agriculture, urban planning, environmental protection, and spatial development to improve the quality of life for Thai people.

For THEOS-2A, Thai satellite engineers have contributed to developing the payload, from design, development, testing, to integration with the satellite body. The launch mission will use a PSLV rocket from the launch site at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India. This marks a significant step in enhancing Thailand's capabilities on the global space stage and reflects the advancing readiness of the Thai space industry.

Additionally, this project promotes Thai manufacturers' involvement in producing components for THEOS-2A, elevating the nation's capacity to enter the global Space Value Chain. Launching THEOS-2A into orbit not only strengthens the country's satellite system but also symbolizes the collaboration, knowledge, and commitment of Thai people to use space technology as a tool to drive the nation toward a sustainable future.
