The President of the Bar Association reaffirmed the stance regarding the "famous lawyer" accused of misconduct, ordering a temporary suspension of duties. He declared that if the investigation finds actual wrongdoing, disciplinary measures will be taken in a straightforward manner.
Following social media reports about a well-known lawyer displaying inappropriate physical behavior toward a 19-year-old woman, the daughter of a suit shop owner, which sparked widespread criticism, "Lawyer Kaew" Dr. Monchai Jongkairattanakul posted on Facebook admitting fault and expressing regret over the incident. He apologized to all parties but declined to disclose details, stating he would clarify the matter through appropriate channels to ensure fairness and transparency, respecting everyone's rights, as previously reported.
Upon reviewing Facebook, Dr. Thanapon Kongjieng, President of the Bar Association under Royal Patronage, posted that the association recognizes public interest and concern over allegations against a famous lawyer holding a position in the Bar Association, which may constitute misconduct affecting the profession's image and credibility as a whole.
As President of the Bar Association under Royal Patronage, he firmly affirmed the association’s commitment to the rule of law, equality, and professional ethics, emphasizing that no exceptions or privileges will be granted to anyone, regardless of fame or organizational position.
If credible allegations or petitions with reasonable evidence arise, the Bar Association will strictly, transparently, and verifiably follow the Lawyers Act and related regulations, separating disciplinary proceedings from social pressure. The presumption of innocence will be respected until the investigation concludes.
In cases where the accused holds a position within the Bar Association, to prevent conflicts of interest and maintain the organization's credibility, the association will order the individual to temporarily refrain from administrative or supervisory duties and prohibit use of their position to communicate or defend themselves publicly.
The Bar Association will communicate openly with the public within boundaries that do not affect the justice process, affirming it will not protect wrongdoers nor further burden those under investigation, but will base its stance on facts and legal principles.
If investigations confirm wrongdoing, the Bar Association will enforce disciplinary action straightforwardly according to regulations and disclose investigation results appropriately to assure society that it stands by ethics and the profession’s dignity, not any individual.
The Bar Association believes that the courage to honestly and fairly investigate its own members is a fundamental pillar for maintaining public trust and guarantees that the standards of the legal profession will continue to be upheld with dignity.
Once the fact-finding process is complete and findings are conclusive, the Bar Association under Royal Patronage will announce the course of action to inform the public and lawyers nationwide accordingly.
