Samphanthawong District announced the cancellation of the Yaowarat Chinese New Year Festival 2026 due to the mourning period for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
On 2 Feb 2026, the Facebook pageof the Samphanthawong District Officeposted a statement declaring: "The organizing committee for the Yaowarat Chinese New Year Festival 2026 has resolved to cancel the event scheduled for 17–18 February 2026 due to the mourning period for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
The Chinese New Year festival is traditionally a celebration marked by joy and festivity, which does not align with the somber and mournful atmosphere during this time. Therefore, the committee deemed it appropriate to cancel the festival to show respect and deep gratitude for Her Majesty's boundless kindness. This announcement is made for public awareness."
