Sahasawat exposed that the Social Security Office purchased vacant land for 84.5 million baht to build a new office in Chonburi, revealing suspicious issues such as "off-specification, deep alley access, and an excessively high price." Ice Rakchanok said it surprises the insured persons and they are awaiting an explanation from the Social Security Office (SSO).
On 2 Feb 2026 GMT+7, it became a hot topic on social media when Mr. Sahasawat Khumkong, candidate for Chonburi Constituency 7 from the Prachachon Party, revealed information on his personal Facebook page questioning the transparency of the Social Security Office (SSO) in a land purchase project to construct a new office building in Chonburi province worth over 84 million baht, which is currently left abandoned with several concerns noted.
Mr. Sahasawat stated that the project (ID 67089559825) was approved in late 2023 and began budgeting in 2024, with a budget set at 88 million baht and finalized at 84.5 million baht (just 3.98% below the median price). The purchase involved five land plots totaling about 5 rai 1 ngan (approximately 8,100 square meters) in the Ban Suan zone.
Upon site inspection, Mr. Sahasawat found suspicious observations: the land is located in a "hidden corner," accessed via a deep alley with a narrow entrance road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass and unsuitable for accommodating the large number of insured persons in Chonburi.
Off-specification (TOR): the original specification required the land to be adjacent to a main road, but instead, a "directed" method was used to purchase land in an alley. Moreover, the original Terms of Reference (TOR) has disappeared from the SSO’s website.
Abnormally high price: the Treasury Department’s appraised value is about 24 million baht, yet the actual purchase was 84.5 million baht (over 40,000 baht per square wah), which is very high for land in a deep alley.
Project stalled: over a year has passed with no construction started, leaving the land overgrown with grass and becoming vacant.
"We have become owners of abandoned land, fellow insured persons. Is spending 84.5 million baht from the Social Security Fund justified for land so difficult to access?" Mr. Sahasawat said.
Mr. Sahasawat posed four main questions to the Social Security Office: why was a directed purchase method used, was the procurement conducted according to regulations, have complaints been filed with the National Anti-Corruption Commission or the State Audit Office, and he requested the missing TOR be disclosed for transparency to all fund owners.
So far, there has been no official explanation from the Social Security Office regarding this issue, and it remains to be seen how the relevant agencies will clarify the facts.
. Ice Rakchanok Srinok, a party-list candidate from the Prachachon Party, released a summary clip about the matter with a brief caption saying "Surpriseeeeeee, dear insured persons!" After the post was shared, many people commented, including remarks like "Brother, after digging it up, don’t forget to bury it," "Here we go again, can’t sleep," "We own it; can we just build a house there?" "It looks like clearing a graveyard — the more you dig, the more you find," "Waiting for daily Social Security explanations," and so on.
Meanwhile, a review of the public relations channels of the Social Security Office shows no response has yet been issued concerning this matter. Updates will be reported as they become available.
