Mourning “Teacher Por,” a female schoolteacher in Chiang Mai who ended her own life. A popular Facebook page hopes this will be the last such case. Meanwhile, the Secondary Educational Service Area Office has ordered an investigation to find the true cause and clarified that moving belongings from the school front was not intended as pressure or eviction.
On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, a reporter reported that the Facebook page “Teacher Station” posted a message expressing condolences and sympathy to the family of Ms. Sirinya Tayos (Teacher Paulla), with a caption reading “R.I.P. Teacher Paulla.” The post wished for her soul to rest in peace and said that incidents like this have happened before but urged that this be the last time. The post included the hashtag #SaveFinancialTeachers
Regarding the case of “Teacher Por” or “Teacher Paulla,” she gained attention after her boyfriend posted online demanding justice and mourning her decision to end her life. He stated that for over 10 years, Teacher Por was cheerful, optimistic, and confirmed she had no mental illness or depression.
He said, “To my beloved Por, Teacher Paulla, rest well. Take the rest you need. We respect your decision. I promise to be strong and get through this. Time will heal this broken heart. Thank you for loving me all these years and for taking care of me every day.”
He clarified, “My beloved did not have any mental illness or depression. She was positive, bright, and loved by everyone. The only information she left me was about financial work she was assigned. On the day of the incident, the school director called her in for a meeting, after which she abruptly left the school and later harmed herself. There was no prior planning.”
He added, “I have evidence to verify this. I call on those involved in the Thai education system to investigate these facts. Do not ignore this as if nothing happened. Do not let good people die in vain because of power-hungry individuals who intimidate and coerce lower-ranking officials to comply with their demands.”
Signed, your beloved, Inspector Ton.
Additionally, criticism arose when photos circulated showing Teacher Por’s personal belongings piled at the school guard post outside the school. Society viewed this as inappropriate and disrespectful.
Further inquiry revealed that Teacher Por was a capable teacher who had won an award for outstanding English teaching. However, she had recently frequently complained about work issues and had shared the tragic case of “Teacher Mut,” who ended her life due to financial administrative burdens at the school—similar to the current tragedy.
Later, a reporter asked Mr. Therdkiat Yamsopa, Director of Chiang Mai Secondary Educational Service Area Office, who said that he and a legal officer had visited to investigate and speak with the school director. The director explained that the teacher’s decision to end her life was believed to be due to stress from being investigated for financial mismanagement, involving losses exceeding 1 million baht. On 26 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the director called her in and set up an investigation committee, which is still ongoing.
The school has provided evidence to the S.E.S.A.O. showing financial documents and the teacher’s shortcomings, some of which are considered valid since two investigation committees had already been convened.
Regarding the teacher’s policeman boyfriend’s social media posts, the director suggested these might be based on partial information and thus incomplete. The S.E.S.A.O. is taking the matter seriously and aims to ensure fairness for all parties, as the deceased cannot speak. They will investigate both the organizational issues and the cause of death.
Regarding the teacher’s belongings that the school placed in front of the school, this was not intended as pressure or eviction. It occurred after the teacher’s death when her boyfriend requested the school collect her belongings there for easier removal. This is contrary to social media rumors. Meanwhile, the S.E.S.A.O.’s legal officers continue to investigate the school director and will set up a committee to examine all involved. The findings will be reported to the S.E.S.A.O.'s superiors. Relatives concerned about the cause of death or conflicts may participate in the investigation and will be provided with accurate information.
