The Social Security Office explained the 84.5 million baht land purchase in Chonburi complied with regulations, noting the site is only 200 meters from the main road. The land remains undeveloped because it is awaiting subdivision plans from the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning.
In response to the case where Sahaswat Khumkong, candidate for Member of Parliament for Chonburi's 7th district from the Prachachon Party, revealed information on his personal Facebook page questioning the transparency of the Social Security Office (SSO) regarding the land purchase project for a new office building in Chonburi province valued at over 84.5 million baht (just 3.98% below the median price). The land was purchased on 11 Dec 2024, while the Treasury Department's appraisal valued it at 23.4 million baht. Now, more than a year later, the land remains abandoned, raising several concerns as previously reported.Read the report: Coordinates of abandoned land in Chonburi raise suspicions about the Social Security Office’s 84.5 million baht purchase, surprising insured persons.)
Most recently (4 Feb 2026 GMT+7), Niyada Saneemanomai, Deputy Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, clarified that the SSO proceeded according to procurement regulations allowing direct purchase of land. Although this plot does not border the main road, it is located near Sukhumvit Road, about 200 meters inside, 800 meters from the previous office, and within a community area.
The reason the land remains undeveloped is because it is awaiting subdivision plans from the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning. The purchase price of 84.5 million baht came from the Social Security Fund’s administrative budget, averaging 16 million baht per rai, compared to some Sukhumvit Road properties which can reach as high as 50 million baht per rai.
