On 12 Feb 2026, a gunman armed with a firearm entered Phatong Prathan Kirivat School in Phatong subdistrict, Hat Yai district, Songkhla province, taking children hostage. Authorities later controlled the situation and arrested the assailant, identified as a local 17-year-old youth with a history of psychiatric treatment related to substance use, discharged from hospital in December 2025.
The incident left three injured: two female students and Mrs. Sasiphat Sinsomros, principal of Phatong Prathan Kirivat School, who was shot in the left chest and in critical condition. Doctors performed surgery and closely monitored her.

Online, many posted sad news and condolences following information revealed by a teacher at the school via Facebook page "Darawan Chaisuwan," describing how the principal requested to be taken hostage instead of the students and was shot, deeply moving those who heard the news.
Meanwhile, the Facebook page of Phatong Prathan Kirivat School posted a tribute image to Principal Sasiphat Sinsomros, expressing profound condolences on her irreversible passing. They said that although they lost her, her goodness will remain forever in their hearts.
