Department of Land Transport Urgently Summons Bus Driver for Explanation Over Horn Honking Incident at Pedestrian Crossing

The Director-General of the Department of Land Transport has ordered an urgent summons for the bus driver and staff involved to provide explanations regarding a heated dispute caught on video at the road intersection in front of Lumphini Park, after the bus driver honked at a motorcyclist who stopped to allow pedestrians to cross at a zebra crossing.

On 23 Feb 2026 GMT+7, a video circulated online showing a heated confrontation at the intersection in front of Lumphini Park where a young motorcyclist stopped to let pedestrians cross the zebra crossing but was honked at by a following bus, leading to a loud argument that sparked public criticism.

Recently, Mr. Sorapong Paitoonpong, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, ordered the Passenger Transport Office to promptly summon the licensed transport operator on that route to clarify the facts and consider legal penalties accordingly.

Simultaneously, the Land Transport Inspection Division was instructed to urgently track down the bus driver and crew appearing in the video for a prompt explanation of the facts, to consider strict legal penalties, deduct driver conduct points, and require them to undergo training on public transport service awareness under the Land Transport Act. Any outcomes of the disciplinary process will be communicated in due course.
