Announcement of the 2026 Pali Sanam Luang Exam Results: Record 121 Pass Prathom 9 Level

The 2026 Pali Sanam Luang exam results were announced with a record 121 passing Prathom 9. For the lay Pali level 9 exam, 27 took the test and 3 passed.


On 9 Mar 2026 at the monk training hall of Wat Sam Phraya in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, Phra Phrommoli, abbot of Wat Paknam and member of the Sangha Supreme Council, serving as the chief of Pali Sanam Luang, presided over the announcement of the Prathom (Pali scripture study) levels 7 to 9 exam results for 2026. These represent the highest Prathom levels in the Sangha's Pali education system.

For Prathom 9, the highest level of Sangha Pali studies, 599 registered for the exam, 521 actually took it, and 121 passed (92 monks and 29 novices), marking the highest number ever to pass the Pali Sanam Luang exam.

Prathom 8 had 903 candidates taking the exam, with 206 passing.

Prathom 7 had 740 candidates sitting for the exam, with 125 passing.

Prathom 6 had 1,004 candidates taking the exam, with 183 passing.

Prathom 5 had 1,360 candidates taking the exam, with 184 passing, and 221 candidates eligible for a retake.

Prathom 4 had 2,526 candidates taking the exam, with 354 passing, and 317 eligible for a retake.

Prathom 3 had 3,394 candidates taking the exam, with 551 passing, and 793 eligible for a retake.

Prathom levels 1-2 had 18,333 candidates taking the exam, with only 973 passing, and 2,564 eligible for a retake.

Regarding the Pali language exams for laypeople, the Pali Study (B.S.) levels 7 to 9 results were as follows:

For B.S. 9, 27 candidates registered, 5 were absent, and 3 passed.

For B.S. 8, 43 candidates registered, 14 were absent, and 4 passed.

For B.S. 7, 39 candidates registered, 12 were absent, and 6 passed.

For B.S. 6, 55 candidates registered, 10 were absent, and 17 passed.

For B.S. 5, 88 candidates registered, 11 were absent, and 18 passed.

For B.S. 4, 165 candidates registered, 32 were absent, and 35 passed.

For B.S. 3, 244 candidates registered, 59 were absent, and 46 passed.

For B.S. levels 1-2, 1,605 candidates registered, 517 were absent, and 64 passed.
