What is O-NET?

The Ordinary National Educational Test (O-NET) is a standardized exam measuring knowledge and comprehensive thinking skills of students in grades 6, 9, and 12.

It assesses according to the learning standards of the 2008 Basic Education Core Curriculum, covering 51 learning standards across five subject groups: Thai language, social studies, English, mathematics, and science.

Why take the O-NET?

The National Institute of Educational Testing Service (Public Organization) has specified the following objectives for administering the O-NET:

1. To assess knowledge, comprehensive thinking, and analytical skills of students in grade 6, grade 9, and grade 12.

2. To use the test results to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools.

3. To use the results for evaluating national student learning outcomes.

4. For other purposes such as research, scholarship applications abroad (e.g., Germany, Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, and Hong Kong), and for agencies to set goals and indicators in educational development.

Target groups and subjects tested in O-NET


  • Students in grade 6 and grade 9 

take four subjects: Thai language, English, mathematics, and science.

  •  Students in grade 12

take five subjects: Thai language, English, mathematics, science, and social studies, religion, and culture.
