Anticipation Builds Over How Much Diesel and Gasoline Prices Will Rise Government to Announce This Evening

The government's 15-day fuel price freeze has ended, with growing suspense over how much diesel and gasoline prices will increase.Gasolinewill rise by how many baht; the government will provide answers this evening. Be prepared to refuel before the price adjustment.

On 17 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that after the Oil Fuel Fund Office held a meeting of the Oil Fuel Fund Management Committee (OFMC) which resolved to use the Oil Fund budget to subsidize diesel fuel prices for the public by up to 18.31 baht per liter. This subsidy aims to prevent retail prices from exceeding 30 baht per liter, currently at 29.94 baht per liter. Without the subsidy, diesel fuel priceswould push retail diesel prices up to 48.25 baht per liter due to volatile global oil prices, impacting energy costs and the public's cost of living. As a result, domestic diesel retail prices will remain at 29.94 baht per liter.

Meanwhile, today marks the end of the 15-day diesel price freeze ordered by the Prime Minister. Minister Anutin has convened a meeting of relevant partiesto considerall measures, including deciding on the extent of the fuel price adjustment in the Cabinet meeting. It is expected that the government has two options: either continue subsidizing diesel prices at over 18 baht per liter or allow a slight increase in diesel prices, likely a gradual rise of 0.50-1.00 baht per liter, effective from 18 March.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn mentioned that a meeting on the diesel price freeze will occur this evening. He confirmed that prices for both gasoline and diesel will increase tomorrow. Gasoline prices have already risen somewhat over the past one to two weeks, while diesel prices will start to increase tomorrow. However, he assured that the increase would be only by a few satang, less than one baht, starting tomorrow morning. The final decision will be made in the evening meeting (17 Mar), aiming to cap prices below 33 baht.

Therefore, this evening, attention should focus on whether diesel and gasoline prices will be adjusted, and what the fuel prices will be on 18 Mar 2026. What will be the prices of gasoline and diesel?

Further updates will be reported.
