Mission to Save a Life: Delivering the 163rd Donated Heart from Ratchaburi to Siriraj Hospital in 50 Minutes

Highway police and Royal Project traffic police safely delivered the 163rd donated heart from Ban Pong Hospital to Siriraj Hospital within 50 minutes.

On 23 March 2026, Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police and director of the Traffic Management Center, revealed that on the evening of 22 March, Nong Din Daeng highway police and Royal Project traffic police facilitated traffic and carried out a critical life-saving mission by transporting the 163rd donated heart and four other organs for four patients from Ban Pong Hospital in Ratchaburi Province to Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok for transplantation.

At 16:45, Nong Din Daeng highway police officers escorted the heart transport vehicle from Ban Pong Hospital, Ratchaburi, before coordinating with Royal Project traffic police to take over the escort within Bangkok until reaching the destination, with highway police vehicles providing rear protection.

Upon notification, under the direction of Police Major General Damrongsak Sawang-ngam, Commander of the Traffic Police Division, orders were given for Royal Project traffic police to prepare and support the mission immediately. A rapid-response team waited at Salaya on Borommaratchachonnani Road parallel lane, then facilitated urgent traffic clearance with excellent cooperation from expressway officials, local traffic police, and motorists who willingly made way.

Police Lieutenant General Nitithorn Jintakanon, Commander of Education and head of the Traffic Police Image Enhancement Task Force, said that the patients’ relatives waiting at Siriraj Hospital expressed gratitude to the police officers for delivering the organs with determination and excellent coordination.

The mission was successfully completed, covering the 76-kilometer journey from Ban Pong Hospital to Siriraj Hospital in just 50 minutes, compared to the normal travel time of about 90 minutes due to heavy traffic. Especially on Sunday evenings, traffic returning to Bangkok for work preparation on Monday is dense and can take up to two hours. Thanks are extended to all motorists who made way so the heart could arrive quickly.

The duty of highway and traffic police units exemplifies the spirit of public protectors, always ready to care for and assist citizens in any crisis. Although Sunday is a rest day for many, the police mission to help the public never stops. Police stand ready to assist 24 hours a day.
