On 28 March 2026 at 20:30 GMT+7, the 60+ Earth Hour 2026 activity has started: turning off lights for one hour to combat global warming. This campaign involves millions of people from 190 countries and 7,000 cities worldwide, including Thailand, who will switch off unnecessary lights or unplug unused electrical devices and reduce all forms of energy consumption from 20:30 to 21:30 GMT+7.
This year in Bangkok, the city has partnered with networks to promote the one-hour lights-off campaign to reduce global warming. They have called on government agencies, private sectors, businesses, shops, the public, and all media outlets to reduce energy use and turn off unnecessary lights such as decorative lights, building and skyscraper lighting, billboards, residential lights, and to unplug unused electrical appliances and limit air conditioner use at homes for one hour.
Moreover, Bangkok requests cooperation for symbolic light shutdowns at three main locations this year: 1. Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan in Bangkok Yai District, 2. Sao Chingcha and Wat Suthat Thepphawararam Ratchawaramahawihan in Phra Nakhon District, and 3. Golden Mount (Wat Saket Ratchaworamahawihan) in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District. Additionally, all 50 district offices, together with networks and building or site owners in their areas, will collectively participate in symbolic light turn-offs at buildings, homes, and streets.
However, observations in many areas show thatseveral provincesin Thailand have also beencampaigningto turn off lightsas well. This isan atmosphere ofinviting everyone to reduce global warmingandsave energy, whichcan be done easilyand will conclude at 21:30, lasting only one hour. Besides helping households save on electricity bills, it also contributes to national energy savings, budget conservation, and environmental protection all at once.
