A well-known school explained the incident where a 6-year-old boy drowned and died in the school's swimming pool. The school has ordered the establishment of a fact-finding committee, mandated enhanced safety measures, and assured full cooperation with the police. Meanwhile, the parents remain doubtful.
On 29 Mar 2026 CE, reports stated that a tragic incident occurred where a 6-year-old boy drowned and died inside the swimming pool of a school in the Yannawa district on 25 Mar 2026 CE. The relatives remain uncertain about the cause of the drowning.
At 17:00 yesterday (28 Mar), reporters visited Wat Chong Lom on Rama 3 Soi 68, Chong Nonsi subdistrict, Yannawa district, Bangkok, where the boy's funeral prayer was held. The atmosphere was filled with deep sorrow.
When asked, the boy's mother revealed she learned about the incident around 3:30 p.m. The school teacher called to ask if she had picked up her son because he was missing. She replied she had not, as she finished work late around 5:30 p.m. and usually her older sibling drove to pick him up. However, on that day, his grandmother picked him up. The teacher then said they would help search for him first.
After 10 minutes without contact, she called to ask for updates. The teacher said they still could not find him and were checking the CCTV footage. She asked them to call back after reviewing the footage because she was worried about her son's whereabouts. Later, the teacher called back to say the last image showed him near the swimming pool, then contact was lost again for 25 minutes.
The mother further explained that during the summer course on 9 Mar, there was no contact with the homeroom teacher; contact was made only later. Initially, her son did not take swimming lessons as he did not have a swimsuit. She ordered one on 18 Mar but was unaware of the swimming schedule. She requested the timetable from the teacher so her son wouldn't have to carry the heavy swimsuit unnecessarily. She learned he was scheduled to swim again on Wednesday, 25 Mar, the day of the incident.
That day, he wore his new swimsuit. Usually, there is a parent chat group on LINE, but she was not part of it. At first, no one called her to say they found her son at the pool; she was the one who called to inquire. The teacher's voice trembled as she replied, “I'm very sorry, ma'am. The teacher apologizes sincerely. Your son has drowned. Rescue teams are being called and are on their way.”
At that moment, she was at a loss and deeply distressed. She still did not know which teacher taught swimming or have a list of names. No teacher has come to provide care or counseling. She is not ready to discuss this further, wanting first to know the truth because the teachers' responses were inconsistent, raising questions about what really happened.
Regarding reports that 100,000 baht compensation had been given, she said this was untrue. An envelope was handed to the grandmother, said to be unrelated to the school. The grandmother accepted it and saw it was labeled “From the school’s management and teachers.” They did not count or open the envelope. She talked to the grandmother about feeling uneasy and returned the envelope to avoid rumors that they had received compensation. She affirmed they will pursue legal action to the fullest extent.
A teacher stated only that they did not want such an incident to occur, that the entire teaching staff is saddened by the event, and they have provided all information to the police.
At 06:31 today (29 Mar), the school released a statement regarding the incident and safety measures, saying: Following the tragic drowning of a student in the school swimming pool on Wednesday, 25 Mar 2026 CE, this event has caused profound sorrow among the school's management, teachers, and staff.
