People Rush to Fill Diesel Tanks Late at Night Before 3.50 Baht Price Hike Effective Tomorrow

Social media erupted as people flooded comments following the announcement of a 3.50 baht increase in diesel prices effective tomorrow, 2 Apr 2026. Several gas stations in Bangkok faced long traffic jams, with the public scrambling to fill up their tanks late at night.

On 1 Apr 2026, the Oil Fund Management Committee (OFMC) decided to reduce the diesel fuel subsidy by 4.11 baht per liter—from 21.89 baht per liter to 17.78 baht per liter—to align with market conditions and maintain the fund's liquidity. This resulted in the domestic retail diesel price rising to 44.24 baht per liter, effective 2 Apr onward (see related news).OFMC reduces diesel subsidy, causing retail diesel prices to increase by 3.50 baht per liter.)

Subsequently, reporters noted that after the price adjustment announcement spread online, many people expressed their views, commenting things like “Getting too expensive,” “Not sure if this is an April Fool’s joke,” and “We’ll have to queue up again tonight.” Many posted critiques using the hashtag #oilprice.

At 9 p.m., reporters observed multiple roads in Bangkok crowded with people driving cars, pickup trucks, and three-wheeled motorcycles lining up in long queues to fill fuel before the price hike takes effect tomorrow.

Most recently, PTT Station and Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited (BCP) announced price increases for all fuel types: diesel up by 3.50 baht per liter, and gasoline and gasohol up by 1.20 baht per liter, effective at 5 a.m. tomorrow (2 April 2026).
