Efforts are being made through every possible means to conserve energy. The Prime Minister is preparing to introduce conservation measures for fuel. Gas stations will operate on a schedule, halting sales from 22:00 to 05:00, starting after Songkran 2026.
On 7 April 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, clarified the plan for scheduled gas station operations, stating that measures to conserve fuel are underway to ensure sufficient supply for the country. He will expedite establishing a new center to manage and monitor the conflict situation in the Middle East, as the previous center's term ended with the last government. He emphasized that, due to the ongoing Middle East conflict, every effort will be made to conserve energy, implementing controlled fuel usage measures as much as possible.
When asked if this would affect public travel, especially during the Songkran festival, Anutin said the measures would take effect after 20 April 2026, allowing people to complete their festival travels and return to normal life. This aligns with his previous statement encouraging citizens to travel home smoothly during Songkran as much as the government can facilitate.
However, reports indicate that the scheduled gas station hours will not mean complete closure or service suspension. Instead, only certain fuel types will be sold during restricted hours, likely limited to diesel B20—a bio-diesel blend—and E20 fuel, specifically between 22:00 and 05:00. Sales of these fuels will be prohibited outside these hours.
