Meteorological Department Issues First Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Prepare for Heavy Rain from 16-20 Apr 2026

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning First edition of the “Severe Thunderstorm” warning for upper Thailand, forecasting thunderstorms and strong gusty winds affecting the area from 16 to 20 April 2026.

On 13 April 2026, the Meteorological Department announced the first edition of the severe thunderstorm warning for upper Thailand, effective from 16 to 20 April 2026. It states that during this period, upper Thailand will experience severe thunderstorms characterized by heavy rain, strong gusty winds, hail in some places, and occasional lightning in certain areas.

The storm will begin in the Northeast region, followed by impacts in the East, eastern parts of the Central region, and the lower North. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over the South China Sea, strengthening the southerly and southeasterly winds covering the lower Northeast and East regions, while upper Thailand experiences hot to very hot weather.

Residents in these areas are urged to be cautious of the severe thunderstorms by avoiding open spaces, staying away from large trees, unstable structures, and weak billboards. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural products and livestock from potential damage. Additionally, they should take care of their health during this changing weather period.

The public is advised to follow announcements from the Meteorological Department and can access information on their website.http://www.tmd.go.thor by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department will issue the next update on 14 April 2026 at 11:00.
