On 1 May 2026, Social Security dental benefits undergo a major overhaul with a clear comparison. "Old Rights vs. New Rights" How do they differ, and what additional benefits do insured persons gain?
FacebookSocial Security Office, Ministry of LabourA post states that starting from 1 May 2026, Social Security dental benefits will be significantly revamped. Wisdom tooth extraction no longer competes with the filling budget because Social Security has separated the funds, allowing claims up to 2,500 baht per tooth.
Who is eligible to use these rights?
What additional dental benefits does Social Security provide?
1. Tooth extraction/filling/scaling (basic rights)
Private hospitals/clinics: The annual limit remains at 900 baht, unchanged.
Public hospitals: Coverage is expanded to include root planing and alveolar bone trimming.
2. Wisdom tooth extraction
Old system: Included within the 900 baht annual limit. For example, if extraction costs 2,500 baht per tooth, the patient pays the 1,600 baht difference.
New system: Funds are separated from the 900 baht limit.
For uncomplicated extraction, reimbursement is up to 1,500 baht per tooth; for complex extraction (requiring bone removal), up to 2,500 baht per tooth. If using contracted public hospitals, actual expenses are covered according to standards (excluding after-hours clinics).
3. Removable dentures
Old system: Limited budget and less comprehensive coverage.
New system: Increased total budget from 1,500 to 6,000 baht depending on number and type of teeth, plus an additional 900 baht per repair.
4. Dental implants supporting full dentures
Old system: No coverage; patients must pay all costs themselves.
New system: Added rights for those who have lost all teeth and cannot wear removable dentures.
Includes surgery payment of 17,500 baht per case, implant kits costing 3,300 baht, and follow-up care rights.
If insured persons use non-contracted providers, they must pay upfront and later claim reimbursement from the Social Security Office or via the e-Self Service system. For more information, contact any Social Security Office nationwide or call the 24-hour hotline at 1506.
