Burapha Withi Expressway Resumes Normal Service After Concrete Repair Following Lithium Battery Truck Fire

The Burapha Withi Expressway has resumed normal service. The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) deployed engineers and technicians to inspect the damage following a lithium battery truck fire and has removed the peeling concrete.

On 4 May 2026, the Facebook page of the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) posted that the Burapha Withi Expressway is now fully operational.

The fire occurred on Thepharak Road (Bangna-Trad) near km 40+500 on 3 May 2026 at about 19:30. The flames erupted fiercely from lithium batteries, generating intense heat and causing continuous explosions. This fire damaged parts of the Burapha Withi Expressway's concrete surface.

EXAT ordered engineers and expert technicians to inspect the site on the night of the incident. By 23:00, they found the concrete surface had peeled and chipped, but the overall concrete structure remained stable and strong, with no deformation or bending detected.

EXAT removed the peeled concrete by 05:00 on 4 May 2026. The Burapha Withi Expressway has reopened for normal use, with EXAT staff managing traffic to ensure smooth travel. They apologized for any inconvenience caused.
