Update on the program formerly known as "Half-Half," now renamed "Thai Help Thai": Today, at the Cabinet meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Akniti Nitithanprapas will propose the draft royal decree to borrow 400 billion baht to address the new economic crisis, aiming to balance short-term aid for citizens and long-term national economic restructuring.
The 400 billion baht loan will be split 50:50 between mitigating impacts and restructuring Thailand's economy. It is designed to be flexible for reallocation as needed. The first 200 billion baht targets vulnerable groups and grassroots economic stimulation, used in the “Half-Half” program, now adjusted to 60% government and 40% citizen co-pay. Initially planned for 30 million people, each receiving 4,000 baht. The Finance Ministry is currently refining details to ensure efficiency and value, preparing to present to Cabinet on 12 May 2026 after the loan decree is approved.
Meanwhile, the 13.2 million current holders of the state welfare card, or 'poor people's card,' are under consideration for reopening registration to update information and ensure accurate disbursement. Reports indicate they will also receive 4,000 baht, divided into 1,000 baht monthly over 4 months, though final details are pending.
The Thai Help Thai program will open registration within May 2026, with benefits starting from June 2026.
Under the “Thai Help Thai” program, eligible recipients will receive 4,000 baht total, paid as 1,000 baht monthly over 4 months, expected from June to September 2026. Daily spending is capped at 100 baht, with the government covering 60% and citizens 40%. Unused daily amounts can roll over to the next day.
However, any unused portion of the 1,000 baht monthly allowance will not roll over to the following month.
Nevertheless, after the government’s policy announcement to parliament, any progress will be reported accordingly.
