Chang Tong Opens Up After Golden Buddha Hair Examination: Relieved to Be Cleared, Quits Craftsmanship to Pursue Farming

Chang Tong opens up after the verification of the 'Golden Buddha Hair,' relieved to be cleared of suspicion. He admits that previously he was very stressed and worried about legal matters. He reveals that he has now left his casting profession and turned to farming at home.

Regarding the controversy and debate about the 'Golden Buddha Hair' at Wat Boon Chuen Choo, Bang Phun Subdistrict, Mueang Pathum Thani District, concerning whether it contained 50 baht worth of gold or not, which put pressure on Chang Tong, the craftsman who created the Golden Buddha Hair about 10 years ago. After the examination, it was found that the gold inside was intact as previously reported (Read the news: Examination of Buddha Hair at Wat Boon Chuen Choo confirms gold is still inside, “Chang Tong” collapses and breaks down in tears)

Most recently (5 May 2026), Mr. Worapot Jittatham, or Chang Tong, aged 43, spoke to Thairath Online news team saying that after the examination confirmed the gold inside the Buddha Hair, he felt relieved, without any lingering doubts or concerns about its existence. Now the truth is clear.

He admitted that previously he felt very stressed, suffocated, and pressured, constantly worrying about what might have happened to the Buddha Hair. He became mentally unsettled because he didn’t know where the Buddha Hair had been or if the abbot had forgotten the key somewhere. He kept fearing the worst, even though he was confident it was the original Buddha Hair, still worried about what to do if the gold was missing after opening it.

If the result had shown no gold, he would have had to face stress over legal issues, worrying about being cleared of suspicion. People would still doubt him even if he was innocent. The police investigation process takes time and can be prolonged. He worried about how his family would cope. Personally, he was not concerned about his reputation because he had stopped accepting casting jobs. If this issue remained unclear, the foundry would be the one losing reputation.

Chang Tong also shared that he started working at a foundry at age 20 and became a full brass caster at age 26. Currently, he has not taken any casting jobs for 2-3 years and is now focusing on farming at home.
