A tree has engulfed a missing utility pole for over 10 years in central Mae Sot city, Tak Province. Recently, the city administration ordered a road closure and coordinated with electricity officials to cut power and remove the tree, finally locating the pole.
At 13:30 on 5 May 2026 GMT+7, reporters from Chidwana Road, Mae Sot Post Office alley, Jokjo Samakkee community, were taken by Mae Sot city officials to the site to address a problem persisting for more than 10 years: a utility pole that once stood by the roadside was missing and could not be found.
Upon inspecting the area, it was revealed that trees and parasitic banyan vines had grown over the site, completely covering the utility pole. Only with careful observation could the pole, wires, and cables be seen.
Mae Sot city officials, led by Mayor Koon Khrueawira, along with the deputy mayor, municipal council members, and staff from the engineering and sanitation departments, coordinated with the Mae Sot Provincial Electricity Authority to cut power in the area and urgently close the alley behind the post office to ensure public safety for residents' lives and property.
Additionally, they collaborated with the Tak Provincial Administrative Organization, which brought machinery to dredge the canals in the Jokjo community, a low-lying area prone to annual flooding, to improve water flow and drainage.
