The Meteorological Department announced on 15 May 2026 that Thailand will enter the rainy season officially, with continuous rain covering most areas of the country.
On 14 May 2026, Dr. Sukanyanee Yawichan, Director-General of the Meteorological Department, held a press conference on the start of the 2026 rainy season, stating, "Thailand will officially begin the rainy season on 15 May 2026, with increasing and continuous rain covering most parts of the country.
At the same time, the lower atmospheric winds at an altitude of 1.5 kilometers have shifted to southwesterly winds, typical for the rainy season, bringing moisture from the Andaman Sea to continuously cover Thailand. Meanwhile, upper-level winds from 10 kilometers altitude and above have changed to easterly winds over Thailand.
These weather conditions indicate the start of the rainy season in Thailand. Therefore, the Meteorological Department officially declares that Thailand has entered the rainy season starting 15 May 2026.
Although the rainy season has begun, the weather during this transition period may be unstable. Some areas might experience heat, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds for a time until the rainy season is fully established."
