5.3 Magnitude Earthquake in Myanmar Felt in Bangkok

At 09:05 on 18 May 2026, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar approximately 247 km from Thailand. Residents in Bangkok felt the tremors.


On 18 May 2026, reports indicatedThe National Disaster Warning Centerreported an earthquake in the sea at 09:05 with a magnitude of 5.3 and a depth of 10 km near the southern coast of Myanmar, southwest of Mae Sot district, Tak province, about 247 km from Thailand. There was no impact on Thailand.

However, reports were received of people feeling the tremors in Bangkok areas such as Pathumwan, Bangkok Noi, Bang Kruai, Don Mueang, Thung Khru, Bang Rak, Huai Khwang, Phaya Thai, Chatuchak, and Lak Si districts, describing slight building shakes and noticeable swaying, along with mild dizziness. Similar sensations were reported in Chiang Mai and Lampang provinces.
