The hashtag "Earthquake" surged in trending topics as social media remained alert following a 5.3 magnitude quake near Myanmar's southern coast that was felt in Bangkok.
On 18 May 2026, the Earthquake Monitoring Division of the Meteorological Department reported that at 09:05 AM a 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred near the southern coast of Myanmar, 10 km deep underground, approximately 247 km southwest of Mae Sot District, Tak Province, with no direct impact on Thailand.
However, in many parts of Bangkok such as Pathum Wan, Bangkok Noi, Don Mueang, Bang Rak, Huai Khwang, Phaya Thai, Chatuchak, and Lak Si, people reported feeling slight tremors, with buildings shaking noticeably and some experiencing mild dizziness, which led to the hashtag#Earthquakequickly trending in Thailand as people shared information to stay alert.
