Reports indicate a powerful earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale hit Mindanao Island in the Philippines. Most recently, on 8 June 2026, the Facebook page of the Meteorological Department clarified that the initial data from the automatic earthquake monitoring system reported a magnitude of 8.2 for the earthquake near Mindanao Island, Philippines.
Subsequently, the Earthquake Monitoring Division analyzed additional data from both domestic and international seismic stations, updating the earthquake magnitude to 7.8.
This update follows scientific procedures based on international standards to ensure the information is more accurate and reliable after receiving further measurement data.
This event does not meet the criteria for alerts via the Cell Broadcast (CBC) system and will not affect Thailand.
The public is advised not to panic and to follow official updates from the Meteorological Department to receive accurate and current information.
