July 2026 Skywatching: Moon Companions and the Delta Aquariids Meteor Shower

Invitation to observe interesting sky phenomena in July 2026. Watch for “Earth at its farthest from the Sun this year, moon companions, and the Delta Aquariids meteor shower.”


On 1 July 2023, a report was released by the fan pageNARIT, the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT).They revealed the notable sky phenomena for July 2025 as follows.

  • 7 July 2026: Earth is at its farthest distance from the Sun this year.

  • 10 July 2026: Venus near Regulus. Visible in the western sky after sunset until about 19:15.

  • 11 July 2026: The Moon passes in front of the Pleiades star cluster. Observable in the eastern sky around 04:25 until dawn.

  • 12 July 2026: Mars near Aldebaran. Visible in the eastern sky around 03:25 until dawn.
  • 17 July 2026: Moon companions: Venus near the Moon, visible in the western sky from about 19:00 to 21:20.

  • 24 July 2026: Moon companions: Antares near the Moon, visible in the southeast sky from about 19:15 to 01:45.
  • 31 July 2026: Delta Aquariids meteor shower. (Peak rate about 25 meteors per hour) *Moonlight interference* The radiant is in the constellation Aquarius in the southeast sky, visible from about 21:00 until dawn. Observation that night is not favorable.
