The Supreme Patriarch Accepts Funeral Rites for the Monk Who Died in a Road Accident Under Royal Patronage

The Supreme Patriarch has accepted the funeral rites the monk on pilgrimage who died after being hit by a pickup truck, placing him under royal patronage along with one sandalwood bouquet for the cremation ceremony.


In the tragic accident, a pickup truck collided with a group of monks walking a pilgrimage route from Wat Roi Phra Phutthabat Phu Monrom in Mukdahan province, heading toward Nam Yuen district in Ubon Ratchathani province, causing eight monks to die, four seriously injured, and ten others with moderate injuries.

Most recently, on 2 July 2026,the Secretariat Office of the Supreme Patriarchreported that His Holiness Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatayana, the Supreme Patriarch, has been informed of the accident involving monks traveling on foot from Wat Roi Phra Phutthabat Phu Monrom in Mueang district, Mukdahan province, to Nam Khun district, Ubon Ratchathani province, resulting in several monks dying and others falling ill.

His Holiness expressed deep sorrow and decreed that the funeral rites for the deceased monks be accepted under royal patronage continuously. Furthermore, he granted robes and one sandalwood bouquet for each deceased monk’s cremation.

Additionally, His Holiness ordered the steward to arrange financial aid as royal patronage for all injured monks. The National Office of Buddhism has been instructed to coordinate with treating physicians to monitor the patients' conditions and report regularly to His Holiness. He also granted blessings for their recovery so they can continue performing religious duties according to the Vinaya.
