Exclusive interview with 'Nong Chaiyo,' a 7-year-old boy with a remarkable singing voice, whose viral song clip has surpassed 21 million views. He shared his determination to become a singer to support his family and expressed gratitude for all the compliments. Meanwhile, his teacher is preparing to further develop his talent by entering him in contests to fulfill his dreams.

The case involves an online viral clip of 'Nong Chaiyo,' a 7-year-old student singing the song "Lai Sak Kara Bucha Chedi Phra Phuttha 5 Phorng" featuring the popular line "...asking humbly to invoke and worship the precious shrine..." The clip has garnered over 21 million views and widespread sharing, earning him the nickname "The Voice with 38,000 Buddhist Scriptures and Phaya Nak School."

On 8 Jul 2026 GMT+7, our news team visited Ban Warapraisri School in Chom Phra District, Surin Province, to meet Setthawut Numnutsri, or Nong Chaiyo, a 7-year-old first grader who sang in the viral clip. We found him practicing singing and dancing with friends in preparation for the audition at Sangkha School in Sangkha District, Surin Province, for the preliminary round of a traditional singing competition.

Nong Chaiyo expressed his gratitude for all the support and affirmed his commitment to practice and improve himself. He shared that his dream is to become a singer and actor to take care of his family.

Meanwhile, Mr. Samniang Numnutsri, 46, Nong Chaiyo's father, revealed that his son loves singing and often sings with his older sister, practicing by watching YouTube. Seeing his son's talent, he fully supports him and feels proud and happy about his abilities. He thanked everyone for their kindness and care toward his son.

Mr. Rungron Simainam, Nong Chaiyo's homeroom and music teacher at Ban Warapraisri School, told our team that he noticed Nong Chaiyo's talent from frequently hearing him sing to friends. He saw potential in him due to his skill in singing traditional melodic verses and his pleasant voice.

Initially, Nong Chaiyo was shy and reluctant to perform, but the teacher continuously encouraged and supported him until he gained confidence to sing in front of others. The teacher wants to support him fully, and whenever there are contests, the school is ready to enter him, as singing is his dream. He also thanked everyone for their support and kindness toward his young student. Since the clip's popularity, the teacher has been providing additional vocal coaching, especially on lyrics that Nong Chaiyo may not yet know perfectly, to help him sing more accurately.

Looking ahead, the school plans to continue nurturing Nong Chaiyo's talent. The teaching staff is arranging for him to participate in the Student Arts and Crafts Competition and possibly enter a male luk thung (Thai country song) singing contest. They have begun rehearsals to prepare him for various events outside school.

The teacher, who personally enjoys cultural music, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school and Nong Chaiyo for all the encouragement received. He feels proud and hopes everyone will continue to support and follow the school as before. After entering the contest, Nong Chaiyo has advanced to the preliminary round of the traditional singing competition in Sangkha District.
