
Disciples mourn "Phra Mongkolratanaporn" The former abbot of Wat Phromwongsaram passed away peacefully at Rajavithi Hospital at the age of 73, after 53 years as a monk.

It stated that His Eminence Phra Mongkolratanaporn (Chankaew Chantaratano) the former abbot of Wat Phromwongsaram in Bangkok and advisor to the Phaya Thai District Sangha Council, had been receiving treatment for cancer at the Sa-at Siriphat Building of Rajavithi Hospital since 14 November 2025, with close and continuous care from medical staff and attendants.
When he was transferred for treatment to Wat Phromwongsaram on 17 July 2026, His Eminence experienced severe shortness of breath and low blood pressure, requiring urgent respiratory support and morphine medication to relieve pain periodically.
The medical team provided continuous treatment to the fullest extent, but His Eminence's condition worsened severely and became unresponsive to treatment. He passed away peacefully at Rajavithi Hospital on Monday, 20 July 2026 at 22:55, aged 73 with 53 years as a monk. This is hereby announced to all.
