According to the Royal Gazette website, the royal command granted the ecclesiastical title to "Phra Ratchawatcharathorn" of Wat Kai Tia, Bangkok, as " Phra Khru Watcharathorn" for suitability in performing religious duties, effective from 23 July 2026, after receiving the royal certificate appointing the ecclesiastical rank ofRoyal Ecclesiastical Rank, Ratchain May 2026.
As for "Phra Khru Watcharathorn" or Phra Ajarn Chokdee, abbot of Wat Kai Tia, Taling Chan, Bangkok, he is one of the famous monks known for compassion and popularity, the original creator of "Na Na Khun Paen" in the traditional Mon style, deeply respected by many disciples.
Phra Ajarn Chokdee's birth name is "Somphoom Romphotong," born on 21 March 1970 in Suphanburi province, the eldest of four siblings.
His education includes advanced Buddhist studies, knowledge of herbal medicine, sacred forest trees, and medicinal herbs learned from village herbalists and hunters, skills in applying sacred powders and fortune-telling from elder Mon teachers, and proficiency in the Pali language.
He was ordained as a monk at Wat Sa-lee in 1990, receiving the monastic name "Somchitto," meaning "one with an even mind." He is renowned for his sacred amulets, especially the Phaya Sarika Setthi.
