The Social Security Office confirms that patients with three disease groups continue to receive uninterrupted treatment rights as these are integrated into the regular service system to upgrade healthcare benefits.
On 29 July 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Kanchana Phoolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, confirmed that following news reports about including three disease groups—breast cancer, uterine and/or ovarian tumors, and kidney or gallbladder stones—into the Social Security Office's normal healthcare system, she clarified that this action does not cancel or reduce insured persons’ medical treatment benefits in any way.
The integration of these three disease groups into the regular service system results from the success of a pilot project the Social Security Office has been continuously implementing. Evaluation results showed that insured persons could access services efficiently, receive treatment according to medical standards, and were highly satisfied with the services. Therefore, it was deemed appropriate to incorporate these treatments into the regular system to ensure continuous benefits for insured persons.
Insured persons suffering from the three disease groups—breast cancer, uterine and/or ovarian tumors, and kidney or gallbladder stones—can access services through the Social Security Office’s one-day surgery (One Day Surgery: ODS) system at 221 capable medical facilities. Additionally, the office is enhancing cancer treatment through the SSO Cancer Care project, which involves 104 specialized cancer treatment facilities serving insured persons. This aims to improve service efficiency, increase convenience in service access, and better meet insured persons’ needs.
The Social Security Office maintains effective access to treatment for insured persons with stroke and acute myocardial infarction, both emergency conditions requiring urgent care. It supports insured persons in receiving treatment at qualified medical facilities under specified criteria, with 54 hospitals participating in the heart disease treatment program and 21 hospitals in the stroke program, to improve survival chances, reduce disability, and minimize complications.
However, the Social Security Office affirms that all enhancements to medical treatment benefits aim to elevate service quality, increase access to standard treatments, and ensure health security for insured persons. Treatment rights for insured persons in the three disease groups remain continuously protected as before.
