The Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara confirmed it never received notification of "Halun Solo's" death from Georgian police on 14 July 2026. It also revealed documents from the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarifying the timeline of the proceedings.
After the online community widely shared news that the older brother was searching for "Halun Solo," a well-known travel YouTuber who often backpacked alone, and who had become unreachable after traveling to Georgia for content creation, the family last contacted him on 13 July 2026.
Until 30 July 2026, the older brother posted confirmation of having found him, "Halun Solo" but it was in a state that meant he was gone from us forever, expressing gratitude for all the heartfelt help, which the family will never forget, as previously reported (The older brother confirmed finding "Halun Solo," sadly stating he was gone forever.)
Most recently, on 31 July 2026, it was reported that the fan pageRoyal Thai Embassy, Ankaraposted a statement addressing questions about the embassy's handling of the death of Mr. Bawornthat Pengsuk, also known as “Halun Solo.” :
The embassy clarified it never received notification from Georgian police on 14 July 2026 as reported and stated the following:
1. Embassy officials who arrived in Tbilisi at 8:30 p.m. on 29 July 2026 immediately went to the Georgian police station and were informed by the officers handling the case that the police had emailed the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 14 July 2026, requesting that Thai authorities be informed. The embassy had not previously received any direct notification from Georgian police.
2. At 11:00 a.m. on 30 July 2026, embassy officials met with representatives of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who officially handed over the death notification letter of Mr. Bawornthat (dated 29 July 2026, in Georgian with an unofficial English translation) to the embassy.
3. The embassy requested the Georgian side to investigate why the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the notification letter to the embassy only on 29 July 2026, after the embassy had made inquiries about this case on 28 July 2026 (following news of Mr. Bawornthat’s disappearance).
The embassy reaffirmed its diligent consular assistance based on reliable information from the host state’s authorities, in accordance with international law, and with respect for the privacy rights of the deceased and their family.
