The puppy allowed the ducks to use their beaks to groom its fur, searching for ticks and fleas, appearing to play and bond closely without any signs of resistance or aggression. This is unusual because dogs and ducks typically do not get along; dogs often chase or bite ducks, while ducks usually flee or fly away. Seeing such friendly behavior is rare.
Upon investigation, the Facebook user was identified as Mr. Channarong Phuthinkhok, 32, from Baan Tum, Yang Talat District, Kalasin Province. He works for an internet company in Kalasin city.
Mr. Channarong explained that he raises about 50 five-month-old egg-laying ducks to sell eggs and ducklings as supplementary household income. He also has two two-month-old male mixed-breed puppies as playmates and guards against snakes, alerting when visitors or stray dogs approach. Initially, he kept the dogs and ducks separated to prevent the dogs from injuring the ducks.
The two puppies are named "I-Tim," white with black markings and calm, and "Kafae," the brown-orange one seen playing affectionately with the ducks. At first, the ducks were kept in an enclosure with a mesh fence to prevent the puppies from entering. The ducks had a pond to swim in, feeding areas, and nesting spots. Over time, he noticed that the puppies and ducks, separated only by the mesh, formed a close bond. The puppies showed no intention to harm the ducks, only playful nibbling, despite dogs typically chasing or biting ducks.
Observing that neither I-Tim nor Kafae harmed the ducks, he removed the mesh fence, allowing the dogs and ducks to freely swim, eat rice bran, and feed together without incidents. He noticed two female ducks especially unafraid of Kafae, frequently cuddling with him. Their friendship grew closer, with the ducks lovingly grooming Kafae using their beaks, while Kafae relaxed with closed eyes, showing no irritation, letting the ducks freely remove ticks and fleas.
Seeing these heartwarming scenes of the two ducks and Kafae happily cuddling, he filmed and shared the clips on his personal Facebook and friends' Line group to share this display of interspecies affection online, hoping to bring relaxation to others.
