The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urgently coordinating to repatriate the body of 'Halun Solo' to Thailand after the family granted power of attorney. It affirmed close monitoring of the cause of death investigation in Georgia and stated that the body can be returned immediately without waiting for the autopsy results to be finalized.
On 3 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Jaitai Upakarnitikaset, Director-General of the Information Department and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed progress on repatriating the body of Mr. Bowornthat Pengsuk, also known as 'Halun Solo,' a travel YouTuber. Currently, officials from the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara remain in Georgia to closely coordinate with local authorities until all processes are completed.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that on Friday, 31 July 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Bowornthat's family traveled to issue a power of attorney authorizing the embassy to act officially on their behalf. The ministry facilitated the documentation and sent it to the Thai Embassy in Ankara to proceed with the next steps.
Regarding the repatriation process, after completing the power of attorney documents, the next steps include obtaining a death confirmation from Georgian authorities and issuing a Thai death certificate to allow the body’s return to Thailand. Throughout the process, the embassy has coordinated consistently with the family, insurance company, and Georgian officials.
Additionally, last Friday, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, called Mr. Bowornthat’s family to express deep condolences and reaffirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is fully committed to providing assistance.
Regarding the autopsy to determine the cause of death, Ms. Jaitai stated that the forensic examination results from Georgian authorities are still pending, as the process requires time. Samples have been collected for testing. However, repatriation can proceed immediately without waiting for the autopsy results. The ministry and embassy will continue to closely monitor the autopsy findings.
