The Foreign Ministry is accelerating coordination to repatriate the body of Halun Solo to Thailand after the family granted power of attorney, affirming close monitoring of the cause of death in Georgia and stating that the body can be brought back immediately without waiting for the autopsy to be completed.
On 3 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Jaitai Upakarnitikaset, Director-General of the Information Department and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed progress on repatriating the body of Mr. Boworntat Pengsuk, also known as “Halun Solo,” a travel YouTuber, saying that officials at the Thai Embassy in Ankara remain in Georgia to coordinate closely with local authorities until all procedures are complete.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that on Friday, 31 July, Mr. Boworntat’s family traveled to issue a power of attorney authorizing the embassy to act on their behalf officially. The Ministry facilitated the documentation and sent it to the Thai Embassy in Ankara to proceed with the next steps.
Regarding the repatriation process, after completing the power of attorney documents, the next steps include obtaining a death confirmation document from Georgian authorities and a Thai death certificate to bring the body back to Thailand. Throughout this time, the embassy has continuously coordinated with the family, the insurance company, and Georgian officials.
Additionally, last Friday, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, personally called Mr. Boworntat’s family to express deep condolences and reaffirm that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is fully prepared to provide assistance.
Regarding the autopsy and determination of cause of death, Ms. Jaitai stated that the forensic examination results from Georgian authorities are still pending, as this process takes time. Officials have already collected samples for forensic testing. However, repatriation can proceed immediately without waiting for the autopsy results to be finalized. The Ministry and embassy will continue to closely monitor the autopsy findings.
