Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchat expressed deep sorrow over the death of a Huai Kha Khaeng forest ranger caused by a wild animal attack. He ordered full support for the family and the enhancement of safety measures for officers at work in the field.
Today (5 August 2026), Suchat Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, revealed that he had received a report from Attapon Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, regarding the death of Sakarin Wichajan, a government employee assigned to Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, who was killed by a wild animal while performing his duties this morning.
Suchat said he was deeply saddened by the loss of an officer who sacrificed and dedicated himself to protecting the nation's forests and natural resources. He extended his sincere condolences to the family, relatives, and colleagues of the deceased. He also ordered the Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to fully support the family's benefits, welfare, and assistance. Additionally, he instructed a thorough investigation of the incident and a review of safety measures for officers working in high-risk areas to prevent recurrence.
Initial reports indicate that officers went to search for Sakarin after he failed to appear at the designated meeting point for a youth camp mission. Upon inspecting his accommodation, they found only his phone and personal belongings, along with signs resembling an animal dragging prey. The body was later found near Thap Selao stream, about 200 meters from the initial site. The corpse showed signs of being bitten and eaten by a wild animal, with fresh tiger paw prints found nearby.
Authorities have notified investigators at Lan Sak Police Station to proceed according to legal protocols. They have also contacted the deceased’s relatives and will provide further updates following the investigation.
Suchat added, “Every forest ranger is vital in protecting our country's natural resources and forests. This loss is a great tragedy for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment family. I express my deepest condolences on Sakarin’s passing and offer my support to his family and colleagues. The ministry will ensure full care regarding benefits and assistance for the family, and we will enhance safety measures for forest rangers nationwide to ensure the best possible protection for all frontline officers.”
