On 5 August 2026, Facebookof the Meteorological Departmentupdated the status of Typhoons Dolphin (DOLPHIN) and Kujira (KUJIRA), stating that weather models from two agencies, ECMWF and NCEP (GFS), still predict different storm tracks between 8–10 August 2026. ECMWF expects the storm to make landfall in Zhejiang Province, China, while NCEP (GFS) forecasts the storm will veer back into the East China Sea due to the influence of cold air masses.
Typhoon Dolphin is not expected to directly impact Thailand but may indirectly strengthen the monsoon, causing increased rainfall in monsoon-affected areas near the monsoon trough and low-pressure zones, which should be closely monitored.
Those planning to travel to eastern China, the southern islands of Japan, and Taiwan between 8–10 August 2026 are advised to follow weather updates and check flight information with airlines before traveling, as unstable weather and strong winds may cause flight delays or cancellations.
Meanwhile, in the northern Philippines, Tropical Storm Kujira (KUJIRA) has intensified from a depression and is the 14th storm counted by RSMC Tokyo. It remains over northern Philippines and is expected to turn back toward the Pacific Ocean, posing no impact on Thailand.
