On 16 August 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued Announcement No. 3 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand (impact expected from 18-21 August 2026).
It states that from 18-21 August 2026, Thailand will experience heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially in the northern and northeastern regions. This is due to a monsoon trough passing through the northern and upper northeastern parts, combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in these areas are advised to beware of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying plains. Winds and waves in the upper Andaman Sea will be fairly strong from 19-21 August 2026, with wave heights of 2-3 meters. Areas experiencing thunderstorms may see waves exceeding 3 meters. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves around 2 meters, with over 2 meters where thunderstorms occur. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas of thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during this period for safety.
For safety and to minimize potential impacts, the public is advised to plan their activities and travel carefully during this period.
