Meteorological Department Issues 9th Warning of Heavy Rain in Upper Thailand Check Provinces Preparing for Impact Until 21 Aug 2026

The Meteorological Department has issued its 9th warning for heavy rain in upper Thailand, listing provinces to prepare for flash floods and forest runoff, with impacts lasting until 21 August 2026.

On 19 August 2026, the Meteorological Department announced Bulletin No. 9 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand, with effects lasting until 21 August 2026.

It stated that Thailand is experiencing heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially in the northern and northeastern regions, due to a monsoon trough crossing northern and upper northeastern areas combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

People in these areas are urged to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands. Travelers should avoid routes prone to repeated flooding, particularly low-lying areas where short-term flooding may occur.

Regarding sea conditions, the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will experience relatively strong winds with waves 2-3 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters. The lower Andaman Sea will have waves about 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are advised not to leave shore during these days.

For safety and to minimize potential impacts, the public is advised to plan their activities and travel carefully during this period. People should follow announcements from the Meteorological Department and can track updates on their website.http://www.tmd.go.thor call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.
