Meteorological Department Issue No. 8 Lists Provinces with Heavy Rain, Urges Vigilance for Flash Floods and Mudslides

The Meteorological Department has issued bulletin No. 8 listing provinces under watch for heavy to very heavy rain, with risks of flash floods and mudslides.

On 30 August 2026, the Meteorological Department announced a heavy to very heavy rain warning for upper Thailand, effective from 30 August to 2 September 2026, bulletin No. 8 (175/2569).

Between 30 August and 2 September 2026, Thailand will experience increased rainfall, with some areas receiving heavy to very heavy rain, especially the western parts of the north and central regions, upper northeastern and eastern areas. This is due to a monsoon trough moving across the north and upper northeast into a strong low-pressure area over northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and mudslides, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands. They should avoid traveling through frequently flooded routes, especially low-lying zones prone to short-term flooding.

In the upper Andaman Sea, winds will be relatively strong with waves 2-3 meters high, and over 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves about 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm zones. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised not to depart during this period.

For safety and to minimize potential impacts, the public is urged to plan their activities and travel cautiously during this period. They should monitor announcements from the Meteorological Department and access information via the department's website.http://www.tmd.go.thOr call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department will issue the next bulletin on 30 August 2026 at 17:00 GMT+7.
