The Facebook page 'Aunt Backpack' announced the death of Aunt Paew Kanjana Panthutecha, a retired traveler who backpacked through many countries worldwide, who passed away peacefully on the morning of 3 Sep 2026 GMT+7, as previously reported.
Aunt Paew Kanjana Panthutecha, owner of the 'Aunt Backpack' Facebook page, was a Baby Boomer who never imagined what she would do after retirement. Born into a rural family accustomed to hardship, she completed high school, earned a nursing scholarship, and served as a government official throughout her career. After retiring, feeling healthy but fearing boredom and premature illness if inactive, she decided to find something to do.
She began traveling alone within Thailand in 2014, which was normal for her since she was used to going places solo, but she had not yet considered traveling abroad alone.
Later, after reading advice about backpacking abroad, she thought she could do it herself and began to travel internationally.
Aunt Paew financed her travels with savings accumulated during her working years, living for herself to avoid loneliness, seeking happiness, and spending her own money without burdening others, which was enough for her.
