"Social Security" Reinforces that insured persons with HIV and AIDS patients receive diagnostic tests and antiretroviral drugs according to their rights at no cost.
On 4 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Kanjana Phoolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, stated that the office protects insured persons under the Social Security Act B.E. 2533 (1990) in cases of injury or illness not related to work under Section 63, clauses (1) covering diagnostic tests and (5) covering medications and medical supplies, according to criteria and rates set by the Medical Committee.
This includes coverage for insured persons living with HIV and those with AIDS to receive medical services such as symptom monitoring and antiretroviral treatment. Insured persons can access care at healthcare facilities where they are registered to ensure continuous and appropriate treatment according to medical standards.
The Social Security Office has provided benefits for HIV/AIDS patients since 2006. It supports antiretroviral drugs listed in the National Essential Medicines List, including both basic and drug-resistant formulas, totaling 20 items for insured AIDS patients at all CD4 levels.
Additionally, laboratory tests are supported to monitor and evaluate treatment for insured persons with HIV, including CD4, Viral Load, and Drug Resistance tests. This care follows the HIV testing and prevention guidelines of Thailand’s Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health. The Social Security Office reimburses healthcare facilities for these laboratory tests as follows.
1. Blood test to measure immune system level (CD4) reimbursed at 500 baht per test, up to 1,000 baht annually per person.
2. Blood test to measure viral load for assessing treatment effectiveness, reimbursed at 2,500 baht per test, up to 5,000 baht annually per person.
3. Blood test to assess drug resistance, reimbursed at 8,500 baht per test, once per year per person.
The Social Security Office confirms that insured persons living with HIV and those with AIDS continue to receive medical coverage under social security rights, including follow-up examinations, laboratory tests, and antiretroviral medications. They can access services at their registered healthcare facilities to ensure appropriate and quality treatment.
