The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) revealed that a freight train derailed near Chonburi station. They found seven out of eight rail fastening bolts missing. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported at the scene of the accident.
On 5 Sep 2026 GMT+7, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reported an update on the derailment of freight train number 845 near Chonburi station, Chonburi province. After engineering and mechanical departments mobilized heavy machinery to recover the derailed cars and repair the railway track continuously, the Chonburi–Bang Phra route was reopened at 01:25 GMT+7.
After reopening the track, SRT dispatched freight train number 554, traveling from Bua Yai Junction to Map Ta Phut, from Si Racha station at 01:30 GMT+7. The train successfully passed the accident site without incident.
The incident occurred at 13:24 GMT+7 on 4 Sep 2026, when freight train number 845, traveling from the Lat Krabang Container Depot (ICD Lat Krabang) to Laem Chabang port, passed a switch near Chonburi station. This caused the last six freight cars to derail, blocking train traffic in both directions on the Eastern Line. There were no injuries or fatalities from the event.
Initial inspections at the accident site found that seven out of eight rail fastening bolts (guard rail bolts) were missing, an abnormality believed to be related to the incident. However, SRT is conducting a thorough technical investigation to confirm the exact cause of the derailment.
SRT places the highest priority on train safety, noting that the removal, destruction, or theft of railway components can cause serious danger to train operations, as well as to public life and property. Therefore, officials have filed a police complaint to investigate and prosecute those responsible under the law.
SRT apologizes to passengers and the public affected by the incident and asks for public cooperation. If anyone observes suspicious individuals or unusual activities near railway tracks, please notify the authorities or relevant agencies immediately to help prevent incidents that could threaten train safety.
